"See, Your King Comes to You"-Zechariah 9:9 (Vision Sunday)

Vision Sunday

"Behold, your king is coming to you."

Zechariah 9:9

In 2025, One Hope will celebrate its 7th anniversary and desires to spend the year as a celebration. To fulfill this vision, we will reflect on how to prepare for this "feast" based on the message of Zechariah.

King Cyrus of Persia conquered Babylon in 538 B.C. and allowed the Jewish exiles to return and rebuild the Jerusalem Temple. Though the rebuilding began in 536 B.C., it was soon halted. It wasn’t until around 520 B.C. that the project resumed and was completed in 515 B.C. During the period of delay, prophets Haggai and Zechariah urged the people of Judah to rebuild the temple and proclaim God’s plan (Ezra 5:1).

Zechariah is divided into two sections. The first part contains eight visions (Zechariah 1–6) and four messages (Zechariah 7–8) regarding God’s present work. The second part (Zechariah 9–14) describes the future work of God, especially focusing on the Messiah.

Zechariah declares that, even in difficult circumstances, we can rejoice because "your king is coming to you" (Zechariah 9:9). What happens when the King comes?

  • Peace: In Zechariah 9:10, God’s reign brings peace. We pray that God’s grace will bring peace to our relationships—in the church, at work, and in our families.
  • Freedom: Zechariah 9:11 tells us that God’s reign brings freedom to those who are bound.
  • Strong People: In Zechariah 9:13, it is declared that under God’s reign, His people will become His weapons.

⇒ All of these things will happen only when the King comes to us (Zechariah 9:9). Zechariah’s words connect to the promises God is giving to One Hope in 2025. Let us believe that Jesus, our King, will bring these blessings into our lives.

  • Let us pray that our King will come this year and bring God’s grace to bring peace into our relationships—at church, work, and home.
  • Let us desire that Jesus Christ will come and set us free from the thoughts and situations that bind us.
  • Let us long for the Messiah to come and strengthen us, even in the face of suffering, with a spirituality that stands firm in reality.

Even in the midst of trials, let us sit together at the feast prepared by the Lord. In this 7th anniversary year of One Hope, let us hope for a year of heavenly feasts, starting with the "book feast," where each family will receive a gift of a Christian book. Through these books, we will share Sunday sermon series and invite our congregation to a spiritual feast. Next, through the "gifts feast," we encourage everyone to get involved and help make our worship a celebration. Finally, we will enrich our anniversary celebrations with our Sports Day where we can enjoy a feast with special food and a festive atmosphere. Let us all join together in the joyful feast the Lord has prepared for us.

1. Say Yes to God’s Invitation!

Discussion Questions:

  • What gifts or talents do you have that could contribute to the Lord’s feast this year at One Hope? Let’s share and consider how we can participate, possibly by forming teams with those who have specific gifts.
  • To build a spirituality that defies reality, are there any specific prayer requests you would have?

Application:

  • In 2025, let us pray earnestly that Jesus will be with our church and our lives to bring peace, freedom, and strong faith.
    • Prayer for Peace: May God's grace fill all our relationships, enabling us to understand, forgive, respect one another, and create a community of love that transcends conflicts and divisions.
    • Hope for Freedom: Let us move forward believing that Jesus will set us free from any bindings in our thoughts or circumstances. May this be a year of deliverance from fear and despair, filled with hope.
    • Practicing Strong Spirituality: Let’s commit to spending time each day in close communion with God, setting aside time and space to meditate on His Word and pray.
