Words and Wisdom (1)
“Life and Death”
Proverbs 18:21
“All things begin with words.”
This phrase applies to all our lives, including church, family, and work. As sinners, we often utter sinful words because of our "wickedness" and our "weakness." Both are sins, nevertheless. As Proverbs 18:21 states, “The tongue has the power of life and death,” words become a key factor that leads to life or death. When we think of our words, we focus on words we speak out loud. However, our spoken words begin in our minds with unspoken words. It is those words in our minds that need to change first. Pay attention to those words and try to change them. It will change the words you speak and, eventually, your life.
1.Our words begin in our minds.
Discussion Question:
- What words do I repeatedly think and rehearse in my heart and mind these days? Are the thoughts and words I experience in relationships the result of actual events, or are they interpretations in my mind?
Application:
- Use notes, phone memos, or voice recordings to capture the words of your heart and thoughts briefly. If this is difficult, imagine that your thoughts and words are being broadcasted live 24/7 for everyone to see, hear, and record. Observe the flow of words in your mind and heart.
- Input through the Word, worship, and prayer, and allow the thoughts and heart of the Lord to flow out in your life throughout the week.
- May this new series on "Words and Wisdom " directly and positively influence each person, leading to transformation. May the work God desires be done by applying these principles, focusing not on others but on ourselves.
